HOT AIR BALLOON
SAFARIS
-
BALLOON SAFARIS IN MAASAI
MARA & SERENGETI BALLOON SAFARI
-
Balloon Safari can only be
taken as an optional extra activity for those booked on a safari
staying at least 2 or 3 nights at either Serengeti (Central)
National Park or Maasai Mara Game Reserve. Balloon safari is is probably the most beautiful
balloon flight in the world and the ultimate African safari experience. This
can be arrange in Kenya (both Masai Mara and Taita Hills) and Tanzania in
Serengeti.
5:00 am: Collection from
your Serengeti (Central) and Masai Mara lodge or camp, and transfer you by
Land rover to the launch site. Here you will meet your pilot, receive a
briefing and watch the inflation of your balloon.
At dawn we take off, rising as the sun rises and float in whichever
direction the winds of the morning take us. Your pilot can precisely control
the altitude of your balloon: sometimes flying at treetop height, sometimes
lower, offering a unique perspective and great photographic opportunities of
the wildlife below.
At other times he will ascend to 1000' or more to see the enormity and
wonderful panorama of the Serengeti. From time to time the pilot must
put more heat into the balloon with the powerful whisper burners. In
between these burns, there is silence apart from the natural sounds
below The flight is for about one hour depending on conditions, on landing you
celebrate in the traditional manner with champagne (well, an excellent
sparkling wine), before sitting down to a full English breakfast prepared
and served in the bush in 'Out of Africa' style with bone china, linen table
cloths, King's silver etc.
After breakfast you receive your Balloon certificate and we drive you back
to the Lodge or camp with game viewing en route. 9:30 am Arrive at the
lodge/camp ready to continue your day's activities.
Included in the hot air balloon Safari:
- 1 hour of balloon flight
- Services of an experienced Guide
- Return transport from the Lodge/Camp
- En-route game drives
- Champagne Breakfast
- Balloon Safari Certificate
SPECIAL NOTE: There are no special requirements for participation in a
Balloon Safari. You should be in good health condition and reasonably fit
and active. It is not recommended for children under 10 years. People with
health and/or back problems should not participate as the landing can be
bumpy and may cause injury.
ballooning is subject to weather
conditions. Height restrictions may apply.

Mount Kenya is Africa’s
second highest mountain at 5,199m (17,058
feet) and the highest of all Kenya
Mountains. Mount Kenya is roughly circular, about 60km across at the
200mm contour, where the steep font hills rise out of the gentler slopes
of the centered highlands. At the centre of the massif, the main peaks
rise sharply from around 4,500m to the main summit of Batian 5,199m,
Nelion 5,188m and point Lenana 4,985m. Other major summits on the
mountain include Point Piggott 4,957m, Point Dutton 4,885 and Point John
4,883m. Of the three main peaks (Batian, Lenana and Nelion), only point
Lenana can be reached by trekkers and the other two being only for
technical climbers. |
|
Africa's highest
mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro stands on featureless part of the East
African plateau, on the Tanzanian side of the Kenya border near Moshi,
side by side with the smaller Mount Meru. These mountains are extinct
volcanoes, with Kilimanjaro actually being the agglomeration of three
distinct volcanoes, Kibo (5896m/ 19,340 ft), Mwenzi (5,149 / 16,896 ft)
and Shira (3,962m / 13,000 ft). whose violent creation is geologically
associated with the creation of the Great Rift Valley, 100km to the
West. |
|
Mount Meru is Mount
Kilimanjaro's little sister, standing at 4,566m compared to 5,895m, but
is still an impressive freestanding volcano, which makes a superb four
day climb to the top. It last erupted in 1910 therefore can be
classified as an active volcano. The first Mount Meru ascent was made by Dr. Fritz
Jaeger, 1904. The town of Arusha lies at the base of Mount Meru
Trekking, loads of trek companies do this trek. Wild animals are
frequently found on this mountain therefore an armed ranger usually
accompanies the trekkers. |
